A New Turnout: Fitting the Pieces Together

Today we’re helping a client to set up a new pony with a new harness and new cart. Correct fit and adjustments are important for safety, comfort of the horse, and load balance!

  1. Hi, this is Carol. From the March Clinic you did in Waco. (plus the upcoming one in May.) Husband bought me a new driving pony. Now we are trying to deicide on the harness for him. We know we want Beta not leather. It is picking out the breast collar. The new pony is a Hackney, 5 year old gelding. 52 inches tall. I like your breast collar but can’t seem to find one like it. I know yours is older. Do you know where I can get one? I thought this might fit in on here as a new set up?

    1. Carol, for a good breast collar for small ponies, I highly recommend Chimacum Tack. They have a website at chimacumtack.com. Our larger horses use Zilco harness, which is excellent, but they do not make smaller sizes.
